If you are unsure where to start, use this assessment to see which sight words your child already knows and what they need to work on. Choose the lists you want to check below.
Use this sight words worksheets page to create extra practice activities for children learning or reviewing sight words. The Dolch word list is frequently used words in the English language that do not always follow traditional phonics rules. These are words that children should learn by sight instead of trying to sound out. As a teacher, I always included a few sight words with my children’s weekly spelling words, but made sure they knew that they were different than the spelling concept we were working on that week. Some of my favorite sight word activities include rainbow writing, using rice, sand, sandpaper or screens for sensory feedback, “writing” with shaving cream, arm tapping, and air writing. Multisensory instruction is really important for children, so be creative and have fun! Visual, auditory and kinesthetic feedback work together to get the word into your child’s long term memory.
If you are not sure where to start, use the flashcards to quiz your child and record their progress on the sight word assessment page. They should be able to both read and write/spell these sight words before moving on to the next list.
